”The
Educational Video entitled, A Drug Called Pornography", is an excellent
resource to address a powerful topic, that most have chosen to ignore. In my
experience in education, I have viewed many educational videos, and many I have
thrown in the trash after previewing because they did not address the topic
well, or they were not age appropriate, or the quality of the production was
lacking. I am pleased to report that "A Drug Called Pornography" covers
these bases excellently. The student audiences that have viewed this video on
our campus, and in our community, have found it to be a thought-provoking, discussion-prompting
video that doesn't pull any punches. If you want to ignore this issue, don't
see this video. But, if you are open to considering, investigating, and discussing
the pitfalls of pornography (which is now instantly, anonymously, and seemingly
inexhaustibly accessible via the Internet) with your students, I know of no
better video on the market to accomplish this goal."

Program
Description
Pornography addiction is a health hazard that western culture is only just starting
to recognize.
This program demystifies the misconceptions that pornography is harmless and
is based on the
latest scientific facts. Interviews with sociologists, psychologists, scientists
and law enforcement officials detail the negative side effects of pornography
consumption. This program is guaranteed to help you or your loved one take the
first step to understanding, discussing and addressing this secret problem of
pornography addiction.
A Drug Called Pornography is a scientific and sociological look at
what the mass availability of pornography is doing to our culture. The program
covers the following: The history of pornography in America, understand how
Hugh Hefner legitimized the distribution of "erotic" material by changing public
opinion about pornography and why Hustler and Penthouse took it one step further.
Mass Availability, pornography is no longer found exclusively in adult book
stores. It comes directly to the home via video cassette, cable, satellite,
telephone and the Internet. Addiction, using 3D computer graphics, Harvey Milkman
Ph.D. (author of Craving for Ecstasy & Pathways to Pleasure) takes the viewer
directly into the brain on a cellular level to understand how sex addiction
occurs. Sex addicts describe the mental and physical experience of their addictions.
Sex mis-education, desensitization and behavior conditioning, Clips from over
1500 street interviews of young men about their extensive involvement with pornography,
interviews with sociologists, psychologists, doctors, law enforcement and convicted
sex offenders reveal how pornography is influencing young men in America. Acting
out, Larry Flint begins this controversial discussion by saying there are absolutely
no negative effects caused by pornography. Interviews from prison with convicted
sex offenders and women who were sexually abused by pornography users demonstrates
what role pornography can play in sexual abuse. The program does not blame pornography
for sexual abuse but shows how it can play a role in the abuse .
"Jon Schneider’s
A Drug Called Pornography makes a compelling case for pornography’s
addictive and potentially destructive effects, drawing on commentary from
health professionals, convicted sex offenders, social critics and most frighteningly
the man on the street. Divided into five segments on addiction , sex mis-education,
desensitization, conditioning and acting out the film explores the relationship
between porn’s availability and changing attitudes, particularly among
young adult males whose diet of porn have influenced their tendency to see
women as sexual objects. Sure to be popular, this affordable, thought provoking
documentary makes a fine contrast to the older patently offensive: Porn under
Siege.
Highly recommended."

"This
educational video has an important message: pornography is an addiction. Its
effects on users and their loved ones are just as habit-forming and destructive
as heroin, tobacco, or any other addictive agent. The film shows how pornography
promotes contempt towards the women and children it exploits. The program features
disturbing interviews with pornography addicts, many of whom are convicted sex
offenders. They talk frankly about how pornography affects their psyches and
systems, coloring all their activities and relationships."
